Hurrah! A better day

One of the problems with being a small bird no bigger than the average human's hand is that it's very difficult to carry around a camera. So I am indebted to the large number of people who post photos from the places I have visited. This photo, for example, is taken by AnnaKika on Flickr, and shows Galloway Forest Park.

This is where I went today, and it was a humdinger.

After my drenching last time, I was a bit nervous about heading to somewhere new. The cold weather doesn't help much, but the generoristy of people with their nut feeders helped.

I landed in the forest at maybe 11am. Very few people around, as you would expect, but the forest was alive with the chitter chatter of various animals going about their business. As always, the deer were making the most noise as they showed off their antlers to eachother, talking in faux-cockney accents, and generally acting as if they owned the place.

I moved to a quieter part of the forest, and saw a friendly looking group of squirrels up ahead. There must have been four or five or them, and it looked like some kind of stock take. With winter fast approaching, they were needing to sort out their nuts as soon as possible.

Despite the pushing need to arrange their winter, they still took the time to talk to me, offer some seeds, and a shelter for the night. Their leader, Dee, was particularly helpful. Leaving them to their stock take, I took a fly around the forest, and spent the day marvelling at the countryside before heading back to a warm reception, some soft ferns to sleep on, and a banquet of acorns and stew.

Another day, another forest

After my adventures in Dalbeattie, I headed off to another forest that I had been told was a haven for red squirrels. The friendly nature of my last encounter sticking with me.

Off I went to Creetown, which wasn't too far a journey, although I did need a couple of stops on the way to gain some energy. This was another forest close to a town, something I must try to avoid in future as the Big Guy said to lay low.

Anyway, a couple of photos were taken, and I think this is probably the best one.

Unfortunately my day was cut short by a heavy shower. I spent some time looking for some friends, but I think everyone must have been sheltering as well. Never mind, a few seeds, a good sleep, and soon I'll catch up with some of my friends again.

Down to the forest

Today I took a bit of a trek down South to see what I could find. Had a tip off that I would be able to make some new friends. So after a bit of a flight I found myself in Dalbeattie Forest.

Pretty marvellous stuff.

I had a bit of a travel around before heading in to the forest and seeing if I could find some friends. It was pretty quiet, which is to be expected given the time of year. But after a quick nibble on some berries I found a couple of little squirrels who were happy to talk.

We shared a few tales, and I told them I was here looking for Carpenter Jim, but they had never heard of him. Got a new lead though, and I'll be off west to look for him tomorrow.

A new friend

Today was an eventful day as I made a new friend!

It's been hard being out here by myself with nothing but some twigs and a laptop to keep me company, but I got talking to a charming young man called Blodwyn. He showed me a few sites around the valley, a good few trees that get some shelter, and where to get food.

He certainly helped me out of a pickle today, so I am very grateful to him for his help. He also showed me something called a pamphlet, which showed me all the different things I can do in the area. Should be a couple of days reading, and then we can get sight seeing!

Hello world!

Well, here it is, my first blog post. Very exciting to do this, altough typing with a beak is quite difficult.

What can I say....? Well, I've been around here for a couple of weeks now getting to know the locals, have a wander around, and it's better than I could have expected! Initially I was here to try and find a guy called Jim, but I can't really remember why. Just decided to stay for a while.

What have I been up to? Mostly flying around here and there, looking at different towns and villages and the old distillery. I think that might be where I focus my attention from now on, as they are fascinating places. Obviously the drinking isn't for me, but watching the history and the culture is fascinating.

And the scenery is obviously amazing. Anyway, can't right much for now, must hop!
